Since the medical examination is not a disease-related examination, the health insurance does not accept the costs. The medical service will be charged according to the tariff for doctors and the costs should be obtained from the doctor before the examination.

Sinai

Sharm El Sheikh at the southern tip of the Sinai is the tourist metropolis of the peninsula. Sharm is divided into three districts.
The district of Nabq is located north of the airport. All hotels are built in 2004 and afterwards.
Sharks Bay is located close to the airport.
The center point is surely Naama Bay, about 10 km south of the airport. The nightlife is particularly lively here.

The southernmost point, is called Sharm El Maya or downtown Sharm. Here the city administration, the military and most of the locals are based. Striking is that hardly any Egyptian women live in Sharm. Fact is that the wives live in cheaper cities and environments.
The Old Market still has its old Egyptian flair. Craftsmen and other service providers have their businesses here.

The beginnings of tourism go back to 1967 when the Israelis established a military base here after the occupation of Sinai and built the coastal road from Eilat to Sharm. After the return of the Sinai to the Egyptians in 1982, tourism, which had just begun came to a standstill, but soon grew again.

Directly in Sharm. Since March 1993 the well-known dive-doctor Dr. Adel Taher runs the decompression chamber at the “Travco” port in Sharm el Sheikh. Dr. Adel is the official representative of DAN in Egypt. He is a very experienced diver and dive instructor and speaks fluent English and German!

Medicine and diving

Over and over we are asked, do I need a diving medical certificate?
 In the attached medical questionnaire you can find out whether a medical examination is necessary before you take a course or come diving with us.
Basically, anyone who does not exercise regularly, is somewhat overweight and takes medication (eg antidepressants) or answers a question in the “Medical Statement” with YES, should be examined by a dive physician and get a written certificate before taking part in diving.

In Germany a diving medical is required by-law for every diving student, up to 40 years every 3 years, from 40 years and under 18 years, annually. In your own interest it is advisable to check your fitness for diving. We recommend it to every dive guest.

What is the cost of a diving medical?

Which doctor is able to provide a diving medical?

Selecting a physician should be based on the list of the Society for Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine (GTÜM). Only they have the professional training and profound knowledge needed for diving.

Environment

For our guests there is one 1.5-liter bottle of water at check-in. For the sake of the environment, we refrain from using plastic cups on the boat. Personalized, with your name on it, the bottle can be filled up on the boat again and again to avoid unnecessary garbage.

Besides, did you know that you lose up to 1.3 liters of fluid during each dive?
Plenty of drinking (water) contributes to safe diving!

Getting there

From October 2017 Germania flies from many cities in Germany directly to Sharm. Every week, planes come from Munich, Düsseldorf, Nuremberg, Dresden, Hamburg, Berlin and Bremen at reasonable prices. Package tourist are collected from the airport by a shuttle service from the organizer, hotel or diving center.

Individual travelers must take a taxi, if they have not organized an airport transfer. The taxi prices can be extremely high, many drivers use the ignorance of the holidaymakers and demand a multiple of the normal price. So be careful: a taxi ride to Hadaba should not cost more than 10-15 euros. To Sharks Bay a maximum of 5 euros, to Naama Bay 10 euros.
Tip for travelers on a shoestring:
 With your luggage walk out of the airport onto the main road and then wait until a blue-and-white minibus arrives. He stops on his route for every hitchhiker and lets him in. Price from the airport to Hadaba: 4 LE per person. WOW!
