FAQ

Do I need a medical certificate for the diving license?

The Society for Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine (GTÜM) recommends regular examinations depending on the age:
- between 18 and 39 years every 3 years
- Minimal after 1 year, if you are under 18 or over 40 years old. Frequently, checks to the fitness for diving of sports divers are carried out by physicians who have no training in this special field. We therefore advise you to contact a doctor who has training in diving medicine.

If you are not able to prove you’re healthy and do not have a medical check-up, you can fill in the medical questionnaire. If a question has to be answered with YES, we reserve the right to see that the guest first gets a diving medical by a dive physician locally before he is allowed to dive.

Can I dive when wearing glasses?

Of course. There is the possibility to buy a dive mask, for which there are optical lenses from the manufacturer that correspond to your required prescription. Or you buy optical lenses, which are glued into your mask. If you wear contact lenses, remember that only the soft contact lenses are suited for diving. The hard ones are not gas permeable and can form a film after diving, which develops from the accumulated nitrogen, and lead to poor vision.

How old do I need to be to dive?

The minimum age for the first underwater trip is 8 years. Maximum depths of 2 meters and times must be observed. 10-11 years may dive up to 12 meters deep, 12-14 years max 15 meters. From the age of 15 up to 18 meters.

Are there sharks in Sharks Bay?

The name is (unfortunately) not accurate anymore. Legend has it that the Sharks Bay owes its name to the fishermen who got into the Sharks Bay with their catch. The bycatch was returned to the sea just before the bay, which of course attracted the great hunters of the sea. Nowadays, there is too much boat traffic, which deter sharks, and fishing in Sharm el Sheikh and their national parks is forbidden. The last sighting in Sharks Bay was in 2017, but that was a whale shark 😉

Is it better to make my diving license in my home country or Egypt?

We strictly follow the standards of PADI and SSI. Our diving instructors have been working with us for years and are selected by us according to high standards. The clear advantage of making your dive with us in the Red Sea is that you will dive in the sea from the beginning. The so-called confined water dives also take place in shallow water. The visibility is crystal clear, that gives security, and the water is always warm. Who wants to go to a murky lake where you can hardly see your hand?

What is the Sunshine Divers Club Member card?

The member card costs only 10 euros, but there is free Nitrox (32%, 12 liters) and 5% discount on the boat packages and beach dives. Ask for it when checking in.
